Well, according to Gregory Bork, principal at the California Lutheran High School, they are “scandalous” and “immoral” when they exhibit a friendship that is “uncharacteristic of normal girl relationships and more characteristic of a lesbian one.” Don’t ask Principal Bork what he means by this because apparently he can’t give you any specifics except that a rumor that one student saw pictures of two girls “posed in suggestive positions.” But the details are unimportant. What is important is that they might be lesbian and the mere idea of having two people of the same gender making out is unexceptable. So he did what any reasonable principal would do. He expelled them for good. After all, a mere suspension wouldn’t do. I mean if they had actually made out and they are actually Queer then there is just no forgiveness for that. No forgiveness, no diploma. Simple, really.
Thank goodness for teen angst, though, right? The two girls have now filed a lawsuit against the school for invasion of privacy and discrimination. You go, girls! The lawsuit seeks the girls’ re-enrollment in the school, unspecified damages and an injunction barring the school from excluding Queer students. More importantly, however, this could prove to be a maor precedent to see whether or not religious schools have the right to discriminate based on sexuality (or, in this case, perceived sexuality).
I can only imagine what these two are going through. I wish I was that strong when I was in high school.
