privilege: its not just for Whitey any more

Just thought i’d spread the word that the 7th Annual White Privilege Conference is now open for registration (www.whiteprivilegeconference.com). The conference is being held April 26-28. Persynally, i’ve never been to one of these because i’ve never been able to afford it (oh, the irony). But i think this year i’m going to try and save up enough to take a few days off work and travel back to the flatlands. If there is anyone else who is going or who can provide me with a floor to sleep on in St. Louis, please let me know.

While we’re on the conference tip… the first ever Dirty South Radical Queer and Transgender Convergence is taking over the NC triad this Spring. It is still very much in the works but you’ll be able to get more info at www.radicalqtc.org (coming soon). Or you can email xriotfagx (a) riseup.net. All you rad Queers and trannies out there should plan on coming (especially if you’re in the South) and/or facilitating a workshop. You’ll get to meet me in persyn! I have not yet decided which workshop(s) i’ll be facilitating, but i’m thinking of the following:

  • resisting white supremacy in queer/trans communities
  • intoxication culture in queer communities
  • consent and sexual assault
  • classist queer

The Dirty South conference sounds really radical. Intoxication culture definitely. Perhaps extended to look at the ways we are invited to utilize intoxicants as a way to manifest levels of denial in our lives around our various oppressions, traumas and around some of the damaging coping strategies we maintain even at the expense of healthy lives. Oh, I wish I was going. It could be interesting and thought provoking.
