link farm #3

Its been awhile since i’ve done a link farm and i’m not sure why. Just lazy i guess. So here’s some stuff that folks should look at:

Jay Sennet Jaywalks: Support Dignity. Period! Tampons Are a Woman’s Right and Human Rights Issue
here’s what jay wrote to me regarding this issue: "please spread the word if you can: zimbabwean women are in desperate need of tampons. inflation and relocated factories have driven the price beyond what 75% of them can afford and many must use newspapers or leaves, which result in infections…."

Blackademic: i’m bored with the oppression olympics
"i’m serious. can we stop saying that i am more oppressed than you? because there will always be someone else who experiences different forms of oppression at different levels."

queering me: is the government spying on me?
“The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY.”

Woman of Color Blog: to the trans community
"
I’ve been thinking a lot about things, and I think that there are probably a LOT of people out there who are in my shoes (unknowlegable, but wanting to *become* knowlegable)–and maybe the best idea is not for me to stop talking–but to continue the dialogue. But somehow within that dialogue, create a safer zone where I no longer attempt to espouse an ill informed opinion on something that took thirty years to create."

Voice of a Native Son: Deindianization is alive and well… and the New York Times calls it progress
"
This article is simpy more proof of White Eurocentrism in play. We are now supposed to follow the NYT’s enlightened "White Man’s Burden" explaination on why this is a good thing."

Bombs and Shields: San Salvador Anteco, Mexico
"A four-teen year-old boy was shot and killed by police and hundreds others brutalized and arrested during the conflict. Police also attacked and assaulted journalists and confiscated or destroyed their equipment. Those who were taken into custody had their shirts pulled over their heads. A human rights lawyer reported that five women were raped by police in a police van."

Cultural Dissent: building worker solidarity through autonomy
"First of all, the outcome of the New York transit workers strike proves that law cannot hinder autonomy. The labeling of a strike as illegal, therefore, is merely a threat. This only serves to keep the lower class at the bottom of a hierarchy of power…"

a womb of her own: 10 reasons why prisons are bad for reproductive freedom
"The U.S. is the world leader in incarceration, with women entering prison at a faster rate than men. About 78% of incarcerated women have children, and a majority are incarcerated for minor, non-violent crimes. Family ties are inordinately strained when a mother is incarcerated, and children of inmates are at an additional risk of educational failure, joblessness, addiction and delinquency."

Ok, i feel like i’m leaving a few out, but that’s what i got for now. I’m watching North Country. And i think i’m going to throw up.
