First the good news and sorta good news:
UPDATE: Webb defeats the fucknut Allen. Dems go in for the sweep and take the Senate, too!
Dems take the House. 1.5 million low-wage workers get a raise. Oregon votes against forced parental notification and a 48-hour waiting period before getting an abortion. South Dakota voted against an abortion ban.
Now for everything else:
English is the official language of Arizona. Michigan kills Affirmative Action. California says fuck alternative energy. Colorado says fuck domestic partnerships. Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin ban same-sex marriage.
a lot of this comes from CNN’s election results

I feel like I should be really happy and optimistic right now, but I’m not.
i can’t get too excited or optimistic about Dems, but at least we have a pretty good selection of non-centrist Dems. and having worked on Capital Hill, i have to admit that i’m glad to see some of the new committee chairs. i am more optimistic that we can get some measures passed. the way i look at it is that the Dems and i aren’t really on the same side. or at least not the same track. but i figure if i’m gonna in the ring, i’d rather it be against the Dems:)
as for the state referendums, i’m hoping to write a post about that soon. its infuriating, for sure. but its a part of the process. we can’t get too upset that we lost so many referendums. no, let me rephrase that. we should get upset. we should get angry and organize like hell!
i love referendums. i think they are the most democratic aspect of our voting system. i think the key is to learn from these losses and use our energy to organize. but i’ll talk more about that later.
