free audio book project

When i started working for myself, i started listening to a lot of podcasts. I religiously listen to Democracy Now, Vegan Freaks, Animal Voices, Audioport, Addicted to Race, Erik’s Diner, Go Vegan Radio, This American Life, Uprising and others. However, even with all those podcasts, they only account for a couple hours a day.

Recently, i discovered the joys of audiobooks. While the podcasts keep me up to day on news, the audiobooks help make up for my lack of reading time. In the past few weeks, i’ve listened to Guns, Germs, and Steel, Art of War, Control of the Public Mind, and half of 1984. I’m officially an audiobook addict now and i was ecstatic to stumble upon LibriVox: acoustical liberation of books in the public domain - an online audiobook project that is working to record books that are in the public domain and offer them for free download on their website. They’ve already got a pretty good collection of books (once i’m done with 1984, i’ll be listening to Dostoefsky’s Notes from the Underground) and their list of “in the works” is quite impressive. Its a nice way to force me away from non-fiction:)

I thought i’d share this online treasure chest and encourage people to volunteer to read a book for others.
