Ourstory Carnival #1 call

i just published the call for submissions at Taking Place for the first Ourstory Carnival. You can head over there to read how it all began, but here’s the jist of the call:

We will publish the first edition of the Ourstory Carnival on Saturday February 24th. The deadline for submissions is Thursday February 22nd. Between now and then, it is up to you to make this happen. We want you to write the stories that are rarely or never told; stories that have been forgotten; stories that helped define you and us. They can be stories of lesser known figures or actions of the past. They can be stories from your family. The idea is to breakdown the hierarchical approach to history that only shares stories to promote patriotism and pacifism. We want to create an ever-evolving ourstory of what makes us who we are. A collective ourstory that informs the present and reminds us that each and every one of us are responsible for how ourstory will be told in the future.

If you are interested in submitting your story, just leave a link to your post in the comments section of this post or use the official post submission page.

Do your part and write a piece of ourstory. And help us spread the word about this new carnival!

Solidarity Design Network is back in action

I’m happy to announce that the new Solidarity Design Network is up and running. Right now, it is me, kevin and eric, but i’d like to add some more folks to the mix (particularly some female-identified folks). So if you have any desire to share some skills in the area of web design and development, graphic design, or print design, just let me know.

If you’re wondering what the SDN is, we are a collective of design and web development folk who want to share our knowledge with those who may not have the time or financial resources to learn such skills on their own. So we will be posting tutorials and links to resources so that you can create a better performing, more aesthetically pleasing blog/website/poster/whatever. That’s it in a nut shell. If you have a question that you’d like answered, just leave it on our Q’s and Q’s page and we’ll get to it as soon as possible. No question is too basic. Some questions may be too advanced:)
