Happy International Women’s Day! Well, as happy as a day that reminds you of global oppression can be, eh? But this should also be a day of celebrating the countless great accomplishments and contributions of wimmin throughout the world. I have a lot of work to do today so I won’t be able to publish my Blog Against Sexism Day post until this evening, but i wanted to wish a quick greeting and provide the following report from the radio program Sprouts, celebrating International Women’s Day. The program starts off talking about the wimmin in Iraq who have been sentenced to be hanged for being traitors to the state (so much for the thin facade of the US’s liberation of Iraqi wimmin). It also talks briefly about a couple dozen wimmin arrested in preparation for International Women’s Day in Iran. The majority of the program, however, is dedicated to female musicians who sing about social justice.
