What is net neutrality?

I stumbled upon this video about net neutrality. Its a little long (about ten minutes), but its probably the best explanation I’ve seen so far because it compares the corporatization of older forms of media (print and radio) with what is attempting to be done to the internet. It also helps explain the strategy the telecommunications companies have been taking over the years to facilitate their take-over of what is now a democratic medium.

This is an excellent find. A very effective presentation of the key point of the issue - bandwidth control - and how it relates to past technologies.

I should say, though, that neither of the earlier examples (printing presses and radio) had the same reach, growth or permanence of content. The net is a different beast, one that isn’t as easy to roll. That said, it still takes people to be aware of what is going on and where the pressure points are.

kevin - i agree that the internet is a different beast, which is why i feel its a winnable campaign. yet at the same time, like you, i don’t want folks to get too complacent.

bint - glad you appreciated the video
